“The freedom of the press belongs to those who own one." — A.J. Liebling

Many people today fear that our God-given freedom of speech is being challanged by corporations gobbling up the public airways.

When corporations are in charge of our public discourse, our democracy is being poorly served; for what happens when the corporate control of public discourse is the largest threat to democracy? It will not be discussed on mainstream media. Most citizens will remain unaware of how poorly our democracy is being served by the current state of corporate media.

We will only hear the corporate side of this and other news stories.

"The owners and managers of the press determine which person, which facts, which version of the facts, and which ideas shall reach the public."

— Report by the Commission on Freedom of the Press. Quoted in “Democracy for the Few," by Michael Parenti

When the Michael Powell, Chairman of the Federal Communiications Commission, the agency charged with protecting and regulating the Public Airways, makes the statement that, "The market is my religion," free and open political discourse is in real trouble.

"The Market" may allow corporate monopoly of our public airwaves, but we citizens should not.

Mr. Powell, you should be serving the interests of the citizens of the United States of America. You should be serving the interest of free political speech.

Democracy should be your religion, Mr. Powell, not money markets.

"No servant can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other."
— Luke 16:13

Mr. Powell needs to make a choice. Who does he serve: "The Market" or the people?

Take action here
